BMW R5 (1936-37)

The BMW R5 motorcycle was produced between 1936 and 1937 and was considered a groundbreaking model for the company. The R5 had a 494 cc, four-stroke, flat-twin engine that could produce up to 26 horsepower and allowed the motorcycle to reach speeds of up to 87 mph.

The R5 featured a number of innovative design elements, including the use of telescopic hydraulic forks instead of the traditional girder forks that were common at the time. The motorcycle also had a streamlined fuel tank and a low-slung frame that helped to improve handling and stability.

Despite its advanced design features, the R5 was also built to be durable and reliable. The bike’s frame was constructed from high-quality materials and featured a number of reinforcement plates to help reduce stress on the frame.

One of the most notable things about the R5 was its popularity among motorcyclists of the time. The bike was frequently used for touring and long-distance travel, and it was known for being comfortable and easy to ride for extended periods of time.

Today, the BMW R5 is considered an iconic motorcycle and is highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts. It is still praised for its advanced design features, excellent performance, and durability, and remains an important part of BMW’s history as a motorcycle manufacturer.
