Bimota YB9 SRI (1996)
The Bimota YB9 SRI is a rare motorcycle, with only 225 units produced in 1996. It has a four stroke, transverse four cylinder engine with DOHC 4 valves per cylinder and a capacity of 599cc. The compression ratio is 12.0:1 and it has a liquid cooling system with electronic injection. The ignition is integrated with injection using variable spark advance and it has an electric starting system. The maximum power output is 77.3 kW/106 hp @ 12500 rpm and the maximum torque is 64.3 Nm/6.6 kgf-m/47.3 lb-ft. @ 1000 rpm. The transmission is six speed, paired with a chain final drive. The bike has a unique frame with two diagonal beams in section bar made of aluminium with internal ribbing, supporting the cylinders with plates bolted to the beams, and a swing arm made of aluminium. The front suspension has a 41mm Paioli upside down fork with 22 possible settings and the rear suspension has a Paioli monoshock with preload, rebound, bump adjustment and can change wheelbase by +/- 5 mm. The front brakes have 2x 320mm discs and 4 piston calipers, while the rear brakes have a single 230mm disc and 2 piston caliper. The bike weighs 175 kg/385.8 lbs with a fuel capacity of 20 litres/5.3 US gal. The average consumption is 5.1 l/100 km/46.6 mpg, and its 60-0/100-0 braking distance is 12.9 m/36.8 m or 46.3 ft/120.7 ft. The standing 1/4 mile time is 11.6 sec, reaching speeds of 195.5 km/h/121.5 mph, while its top speed is 240.5 km/h/149.4 mph. In the 1996 Motoplus road test, the Bimota YB9 SRI was praised for its handling and power, making it a desirable motorcycle for collectors.
