Velocette Venom Thruxton (1965-70)

The Velocette Venom Thruxton motorcycle was produced between 1965 and 1970. It featured a single cylinder, four stroke, OHV engine with a capacity of 499 cc and a compression ratio of 9.0:1, capable of producing a maximum power output of 41 horsepower at 6200 rpm. The bike was started with a kick and had a dry sump lubrication system with an Amal 5GP2 carburetor and a single, megaphone exhaust. The ignition system was a Miller D6 with an auto volt regulation, and the battery was 6V with a 60W output.

The Venom Thruxton had a four-speed constant mesh, close ratio transmission with a dry, three-plate clutch and a chain final drive. The front suspension was a telescopic fork with hydraulic damping and the rear suspension featured Woodhead-Monroe springs with hydraulic damping, which were later replaced by Armstrong and Girling and were adjustable. The bike had 7.5 x 1.5 in drum front brakes and 7 x 1 in drum rear brakes, and used WM2 x 19 wheels with 3.00 x 19 in ribbed front tires and 3.50 x 19 in studded rear tires.

The Venom Thruxton had a single down-tube and twin bottom rails frame, and had a length of 2130 mm, a width of 700 mm, and a height of 990 mm, with a wheelbase of 1365 mm and a seat height of 775 mm. The bike had a dry weight of 170 kg and a fuel capacity of 19.3 L. It had a top speed of 193 km/h and was available in black/metallic silver or deep blue/metallic silver colors.
