Kawasaki ZXR 400 (1991-92)

The Kawasaki ZX-R 400 was a popular motorcycle model produced between 1991 and 1992. It featured a four stroke, transverse four cylinder engine with a capacity of 399cc and 4 valves per cylinder. With a compression ratio of 12.0:1, it could reach a maximum power of 59 hp and torque of 40 Nm. The bike had a wet multi disc clutch and a 6 speed transmission, with a final drive chain.

The aluminum diamond tubular, double cradle frame of the ZX-R 400 provided stability and durability, and was equipped with upside down Showa forks at the front and Uni-Trek adjustable preload with rebound damping at the rear. The front brakes of the bike were 2x 300mm discs with 4 piston calipers, while the rear had a single 240mm disc with 2 piston calipers. The motorcycle had 120/60-17 front and 160/60-17 rear tyres, and weighed 160 kg dry and 177 kg wet. The fuel capacity was 16 litres and the average fuel consumption was 18.7 km/lit.

In terms of performance, the ZX-R 400 had a braking distance of 12.5 m from 60-0 km/h and 36.9 m from 100-0 km/h, and could cover a standing 1/4 mile in 12.2 seconds with a top speed of 215.1 km/h. It was also subject to road tests conducted by Motosprint in 1990 and 1991. The Kawasaki ZX-R 400 was a dependable and reasonably powerful sports bike, well-suited for track and occasional road use.
